Information for ELRC or LTC students only

Hello all,

You are receiving the message because you are currently listed as an advisor for one or more Educational Leadership, Renewal, and Change students or faculty in LTC.

When we made the change in Specialization names, we did not realize the importance for our international students to have the word "Leadership" in their specialization for them to have funding from their government.  A number of them requested to be allowed to have the School Leadership Specialization.  Even though School Leadership did not change their curriculum, plans to share core courses with LTC, and most of these affected students are close to finished, Rod has refused to allow international students to use the School Leadership specialization.

Therefore, the powers that be have decided that Brian will send a letter requesting that we keep ELRC for those students already admitted to it.  Of course, this is going to cause some confusion and sorting out.  Kathy and I already heard from a number of students that they want to be in LTC as well as some non-international students who want School Leadership.  The Graduate School has indicated that they will keep ELRC for us, but that anyone who wants to change will have to submit a GS-7.

Therefore, I wanted to let you know that Kathy and I are sending a couple of different messages out.

1. For all ELRC/LTC students admitted this past fall 2011, we should have them do a GS-7 to move to LTC.  We have 5 of these, 2 are mine, 2 are Bill's, and 1 is Louise's.  We will work on this separately - they have not received any general messages, just the one I sent personally to them last night.

2. We have 5 students that Don Quick and I are working with and we will work with them individually to determine LTC or ELRC.  Those who want LTC will fill out a GS-7.

3. Of the remaining 35 on the list, for those who did not respond, therefore defaulting to LTC, and those who responded indicating they want LTC, we will send a message letting them know that they do not have to change, but if they want to, they need to file a GS-7 with their advisor.

4. For those who indicated they want school leadership but will not be accepted in school leadership we will let them know they will remain as ELRC.

5. For the American students who indicated they want School Leadership, we will leave them as ELRC and let them know that they need to talk with Rod and their advisor about changing to School Leadership and if approved they then file a GS-7.

This has all been very confusing and taken a lot of energy on Kathy's part - so be sure to thank her as you work out this question for each of the ELRC students that you advise.

As always if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.  I am also happy to talk to any students.

Karen
